Time, Oh so fleeting…

So, I started a tradition last year where every time I go to my hometown I have to scale this particular mountain! At first, it looked fierce and intimidating but my heart was set. Being the adrenalin junkie that I am, I had to climb to the apex and see the world from there. I do appreciate a good challenge. Of course, I’m not talking about mega mountains like The Matterhorn nicknamed “Murderhorn” due to the high fatalities that take place every year as people try to reach the top, this one is not so cruel.
So, I scaled it for the second time recently and the feeling upon reaching the apex was so exhilarating. It was so serene up there, so innocent, so untouched, so honest I just had to take time to reflect and pray.

A thought occurred to me while enveloped in this tremendous peace and quiet. Why are most people so busy they don’t take time to see the simplest yet most beautiful things in life? A pressing question I get from women all over the world is “How do you do it all? Where do you get the time? How do you manage your time?” This question has come to me in a variety of packaging but all culminating to the same thing. Where do you even get time to press the pause button and take time to see and appreciate God in the simplicity of his creation? You’re juggling Church, career, work, husband, sorting kids’ lunchboxes, dirty laundry, watering the flowers and a little bit, if any, self-care thrown in as and when remembered.

Where oh where is the time? You get 24 hours to get it all together, but it seems you would be extra grateful if God would just bump it up to 30!

Here is God’s take on this.

Philippians 4:6
Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

This verse should’ve ended with “Yes, I’m talking to you Queen!” because a lot of women have huge worry problems.

What to do?

Biggest point when it comes to managing time is; don’t worry. A woman’s brain is always in overdrive working through tasks in the mind while the body is playing catch up. You don’t always have to go to bed with the dishes done. You don’t always have to have meals prepared and eaten as the clock strikes seven. No fairy godmother is coming to take everything away and certainly no carriages are turning back into pumpkins if you don’t keep strict time!

There is no Home Inspectors Department anywhere in the FBI (Fathers Bureau of Investigation) waiting to strike. Perfect example of what I’m describing is the incident that took place when Jesus was a guest at Mary and Martha’s house. Check it out:

 Luke 10:38-42 NIV
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

At first glance, you feel sorry for Martha. She got a telling off for something MOST people reading this blog would do. She really did take one for the team! Womankind owes her because any one of us would have done exactly the same thing but it was her head on the chopping board that day. A guest comes to your house, not just any guest, this is Jesus Himself, THEE most famous man on the planet – and you don’t run around in the kitchen to prepare something extra special for him? No way! I personally would go all out! I’d even recruit some neighbours to come and help me make a great impression! But God doesn’t see it this way, nice as it sounds. He expects us to be mature enough to understand what takes priority in our lives God being first.

Mary chose to prioritise the word over everything and Jesus called it the “better” option. She chose to give God priority over preparing meals, keeping house and making an impression. Amazing as it sounds to be that woman who makes a great impression, rather be the one who prioritises the word. This is God’s way of managing your affairs and your time.

Invite the spirit of God to lead you into your day and everything else falls into place like a jigsaw. Prioritise Him over everything. As you surrender your day to him, he will guide you into a perfect day.
